The Frontier & outposts
Beyond the historic galaxy lies the Frontier: outer planets you control to produce there, but never colonize.
The Frontier
Beyond the historic galaxy lies the Frontier: a ring of outer planets that cannot be colonized and have no portal. A player who takes control of an outer planet holds an outpost: they land populations and equipment there, build on-site infrastructure, and come back to collect the accumulated output.
Controlling an outpost does not consume the player's colonized-planet quota.
An outpost is not a colony
No portal, never a second empire, no quota spent. Its defense is its garrison, not planetary defenses.
Under fog of war
Unlike normal planets, shown by default, outposts only appear within the player's sensor range.
Control by force
The only way to seize a controlled outpost is the takeover: a dedicated mission that opens a 6 h contest window announced to the holder.
Fog of war & detection
An outpost only appears on a player's map if they control it, or if it is detected by radar from one of their fleets. Outer planets are detectable from farther away than a fleet, but detection still depends on distance and the detector's radar strength (same formulas as the Detection page).
Fleet vision
A fleet detects outposts within its sensor range and reveals their controller. Sending scouts into the Frontier is the only way to map it.
What detection reveals
Position, name, controller, "contested" state and "protected" state. The garrison, infrastructure and stockpile are only visible by controlling the outpost or spying on it.
Outpost states
Wild
Uncontrolled. A wild garrison sustains a weak baseline output, resources only.
Controlled
A player holds control: they deploy populations, equipment and infrastructure, and collect the output.
Contested
A takeover is under way. During the 6 h window, no third party can interact with the outpost: only the two sides fight.
Protected
After a resolution: a window during which the outpost cannot be claimed or raided. Observation and espionage remain possible.
Where it is managed
From the map
Right-click an outpost: if the player does not control it, the Claim, Attack (raid) and Spy missions; if they control it, the outpost Deposit/Withdraw mission.
The "Frontier" page
"My outposts" lists the controlled outposts and those under contest: stockpile, estimated hourly output, infrastructure upgrades, history log, and a "Repel the assault now" button.
